Five Key Lines From President’s Speech
Finally we have a President that has balls – finally we have a President that isn’t pandering to the politicians, but is working with the people, for the people and not bowing down to political pressure from either side. It’s a breath of fresh air. Read on …
"I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last," said President Obama. Based on a quick perusal, are five key lines from the President's health care speech tonight:
[On "death panels]
Some of people's concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.
[On public option]
It's worth noting that a strong majority of Americans still favor a public insurance option of the sort I've proposed tonight. But its impact shouldn't be exaggerated - by the left, the right, or the media. It is only one part of my plan, and should not be used as a handy excuse for the usual Washington ideological battles. To my progressive friends, I would remind you that for decades, the driving idea behind reform has been to end insurance company abuses and make coverage affordable for those without it. The public option is only a means to that end - and we should remain open to other ideas that accomplish our ultimate goal. And to my Republican friends, I say that rather than making wild claims about a government takeover of health care, we should work together to address any legitimate concerns you may have.
[On costs]
First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits - either now or in the future. Period. And to prove that I'm serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don't materialize.
[On medical malpractice reform]
Finally, many in this chamber - particularly on the Republican side of the aisle - have long insisted that reforming our medical malpractice laws can help bring down the cost of health care. I don't believe malpractice reform is a silver bullet, but I have talked to enough doctors to know that defensive medicine may be contributing to unnecessary costs. So I am proposing that we move forward on a range of ideas about how to put patient safety first and let doctors focus on practicing medicine. I know that the Bush Administration considered authorizing demonstration projects in individual states to test these issues. It's a good idea, and I am directing my Secretary of Health and Human Services to move forward on this initiative today.
[Obama's bottom line]
But know this: I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it. I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what's in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now.
A Poignant Saying From Confucius
“Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” – Confucius
Worthy of a mention since it is the truth – auspicious in it’s taunting manner for those that don’t have that in their career – a goal to aim for – a wish or crazy dream. If you are not there already is it possible that the person holding you back from that goal is yourself? Would you even consider an introspective look at your life to find out? Does life get in the way. It’s a gray area – but it can be achieved!
<END OF INSPIRED THOUGHT>
My Apparel Designer is Finished!
Finally – my apparel designer is done! It is fully functional now that all the fonts have been fixed, and it’s ready to go. I’m open to ideas about how to dress the site a little better, but I’m hoping that most people are only interested in designing and purchasing their product. That being said, here’s a repeat of some information about the designer.
One of the most satisfying things for me as someone who creates graphics, is to see those graphics on a commercial product. Normally the cost of doing that is too much for those of us that are not in the printing industry, not any more. I’ve developed an online designer tool to allows you to create your own products and purchase them.
Exercise your creativity with my online apparel designer. Use vectors from the clip art gallery, add text and create away to your hearts content. You don’t need to have image editing software or skill, nor do you need to have an online store. Just create your designs and purchase them online, all in a within this website. It’s quick, it’s simple – instant gratification! http://www.customizemydesigns.com/
The designer interface is intuitive and easy to use. You can see from the picture below that you can:
- Choose a product
- Add clip art
- Add text

If you want just one t-shirt, or just one product, that’s okay. There is no minimum (or maximum) limit. Scroll down the product list and you’ll see some novelty items too! There’s underwear, hats, bags, mugs, aprons, teddy bears and more.
Once you are done designing and your masterpiece is ready, click “ADD TO CART” and a button will appear on the bottom right saying “PURCHASE NOW”. This will take you to a cart where you can change or delete the order. Once satisfied you click on “PROCESS TO PURCHASE” and your design will be uploaded to Cafepress and you will see the Cafepress cart. This is a last sanity check to make sure you have the correct design, number of items purchased and size set.
At all times during the purchasing process you can abort. The last thing I want is people feeling like they are press ganged into purchasing, which is why I left in a few steps to check, and double check.
All transactions and printing is done through Cafepress. They are an excellent source for fulfillment and they don’t charge to use their services. Obviously they get a cut of the profits from printing. So, why not go on over the http://www.customizemydesigns.com and have some creative fun?
Below are some products with one of my designs on them. This design matches the images I have used on the front page here, and in this post. It goes to show just how create you can get!
